Adobe has just released its new version with Lightroom 6.5 or Desktop CC (Lightroom CC 2015.5) and you should see the notifications on your screen very soon.
But there is a new and pretty cool feature Lightroom is proposing now on Lightroom web : indexing and subject- identifying search feature.
Adobe announced yesterday the immediate availability of two new features in Lightroom Web, the Mobile Lightroom interface in a web browser. The first one is Adobe new feature menu ” Technology Previews” allowing you to test drive their new features before they’re officially released. And the second one is part of the first one….indexing and subject- identifying search feature.
So if you’d like to give it a try, just enable Technology Preview by logging into Lightroom on the Web, clicking on the LR logo then selecting “Technology Preview” from the dropdown menu.
Then just enable the “Search” feature and you’re set
The indexing engine will scan the pictures in Lightroom Web (and not in Lightroom Desktop), which will take more or less time depending on the number of images. Moreover, a message will indicate the end of indexing. Then you can perform searches simply by typing a word into the field provided for this purpose on the top left.
This search / indexing feature is still in an experimental stage and for the moment only English is available. Of course the system will improve, it is expected to cross search with metadata to quickly add other languages and allow to approve or reject the search result in each case. This new technology will definitely bring keywords in middle-age times soon and I believe that Lightroom and Lightroom Mobile Web will rise with its perfectly adapted management tools.
In my opinion indexing images online is something really important and will completely change the way we manage our images and our libraries.
So if you’re already a Adobe CC member, just give it a try and have fun ! 🙂
